Welcome,

Slow down. Dig deep. Let Scripture nourish your whole life.

Hi, I’m Joshua Cushman, creator of metabolizinggodsword.com. I’m a bi-vocational pastor in western Montana, a husband, and a father of four. For the past fifteen years, I’ve been learning what it means to meditate on God’s Word day and night.

Sometimes that means listening to Scripture while building a house. Other times, it’s holding a passage or story in my mind throughout the day—asking how it connects to the rest of Scripture, and to my life. I also read widely and compare everything I take in back to the Bible.

As someone with a full life and a full schedule, I know what it’s like to feel distracted and spiritually dry. That’s why I created metabolizinggodsword.com—to share what I’ve learned about slowing down and letting the Word of God nourish real life.

The reflections and resources here are for those who long to chew slowly, think deeply, and let Scripture shape who they are becoming.

“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked… but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.
He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither…”

—Psalm 1:1–3 (ESV)
