Poetry from the Cabin 01/23/2024
I have been listening to An Experiment in Criticism, by C. S. Lewis. It is a wonderful book all about reading books well. If anyone can speak wisdom into that area it is C. S. Lewis. It is estimated that he read something like 30,000 books in his lifetime. All of that reading shows up on every page of his writing. I for one hope to imitate him in my own reading habits.
Beyond simple comprehension
Or finding out what happens
More than technicalities
Or pursuit of clarity
Enter with the Author
Into the world they offer
Find out who they are
Perhaps they’ll take you far
Allow their voice to speak
Find out what they see
Assume they’re brilliant
Give your full attention
Perhaps it will pay off
Maybe it will flop
Give a book a chance
For a world is in your hands
