Poetry from the Cabin 01/04/2024

Our friends have sacrificed a great deal to create a space for hospitality. Blood, sweat, tears, money, comfort and time have all been invested. They have built two cabins for the purpose of sabbaticals for pastors, missionaries, and others in ministry. Each building has been filled with the prayers of their family, friends and ministry partners. As I was sitting inside in front of the fireplace, looking up at the log structure, I began to see its resemblance to the wood Abraham piled up when he was reading to give up everything for God. And in truth, that is what our friends have done. As the fireplace shed flickering light, I was reminded of the burning bush, clouds of smoke within the tabernacle, and Pentecostal fires(Acts 2).

O vanity as death ends each career
The world itself chews up and swallows whole
It’s slaves of production, and slaves of fear
Society, loveless, twisted and cruel

Look here, sometimes a place is love expressed
With boards laid up a sacred sacrifice
Hospitably prepared for coming guests
Burning bright, unconsumed, and full of life

Fruit of preparation in devotion
A space is made for family yet unknown
In house filled up, love, deep as the ocean
For God himself is present in this home

Enter here as calloused griefs made smooth
See newborn skin, be born again, made new
