In a few passing years, James was killed
Saul locked up new Christians in dark cells
The refrain of Christ’s words were well used
Forgive them, they don’t know what they do
The snake writhes though its head is crushed
Many wars, great and small, wreaked havoc
Many famines did fill up new caskets
Governments and leaders were tyrants
The wealthy crushed the poor like insects
The serpent writhes, though its head is crushed
Many saints were sent down to the grave
By the hand of those they sought to save
Subtle lies have deceived God’s people
Even in the cover of steeple
The serpent writhes, though its head is crushed
We among the serpent’s death throes live
It shakes this earth it once claimed as his
True Adam now sits on Adam’s throne
Biding time for seeds just sown
The serpent writhes, as his work’s undone
Christ rules with iron rod His kingdom
Be you warned and be wise, kings of earth
Fear the Lord, tremble lest He be vexed
Honor Him in your ways with time left
The serpent writhes, his power tears away
The snake writhes as God waits in mercy
For many to become more thirsty
His waiting is an act of love
By patience, judgment waits from above
The serpent writhes, until God’s chosen time
That serpent is cast away to darkness
For victory brings blessing upon us
We will dwell in the light of our God
Death, sorrow, famine, fear
Forgotten
The death throes of the snake are no more We enter with Christ His great reward
I wrote this poem thinking of the persecution that is increasing in India. I have many friends their. Churches and homes are being destroyed and Christians killed. All this applauded by their government which wants them to return to a strictly Hindu religion. As hear of friends, who are genuinely concerned about their safety and the safety of those they love my heart goes out to them. I wrote this poem as a reminder that although the serpent still causes harm. His days are numbered, . in fact his head is already crushed. It is only by the grace of God directed toward humanity that the serpents end has not come yet.
