In The Devine Commodity, Skye Jethani, explores the implications of consumer Christianity. He honestly looks as the results of Christianity’s multi billion dollar market. Including everything available in the regular market, just Christianized. According to one study Jethani sites Christians are indecipherable from the rest of Americans in every way, except in what they buy. He explores the large scale failure of the American church rase people up to become disciples of Christ. He compares the currant state of the American church with several other times in history when the Church has fallowed after the ways of the world around it. Including the Crusades and the Inquisition. With all of this directness he remains non condemning. Instead he breathes hope into our Christian lives and suggests ways that we can make practical changes. He suggests no quick fixes or step by step answers. Instead he appeals to our use of imagination as we fallow Jesus.
Perhaps my favorite aspect of this book is his use of the life of Vincent Van Gogh as an unconventional example of how to fallow Jesus.
The production quality of this Audiobook is excellent.
