Cut down to size,
Stretched to fit,
Always compared
To Procrustes bed
Never known
For who we are.
This torturers rack
Leaves such scars
Visible, emotional,
Broken, insecure,
Who will see us
For who we are?
This short poem for a prompt from livingpoetry.net. When I saw the prompt I was immediately reminded of Procrustes. The character from Greek mythology who would fit guests to his bed, either by stretching them to his own height of cutting off what he perceived as excess.
